Zone Championships

The 2009-2010 Mid South Coast Zone Championships, hosted by the Shoalhaven Centre, were held on the 12th and 13th of December 2009.  For once Mother Nature was kind to us and we were blessed with two (2) days of brilliant sunshine and a refreshing North Easterly breeze.  The track was in good condition, considering the lack of recent rainfall, and we enjoyed an excellent weekend of competition.

This year Karen Higgison (nee Phillips), silver medallist at the Los Angeles Olympics, officially opened the Carnival.  It was a real thrill to have Karen in attendance.

Zone Secretary, Alison Cull, was presented with her C Grade Officials accreditation for Discus, Place Judging and Timekeeping.  Sadly Alison is leaving us in January when her family relocates to Darwin.  The Mid South Coast Zone would like to take this opportunity to thank Alison for her many years of service, not only to the Zone, but Little Athletics in general.  You will be sorely missed.

Congratulations to Paul Joines (St Georges Basin), Stacey Scott (Kiama) and Craig Scott (Zone Co-ordinator) who were awarded Life Membership of the Mid South Coast Zone.  These people have served Little Athletics at Centre, Zone, Region and State level for many, many years and are thoroughly deserving of this accolade.

More than three hundred (300) athletes competed at the Championships with Milton Ulladulla winning the March Past and Albion Park taking out the "Dean Blair Trophy" for the third successive year.

Sincere thanks go to all the Officials, Centre Committee members, Computer Operators and parents who assisted at the Carnival.
